Travel information:
By plane: from the airports of Milano Linate or Milano Malpensa take shuttle buses to Central Station (about 20 min from Linate and one hour from Malpensa) from where there are trains to Varenna (direction Sondrio/Tirano)
FROM MILANO
By train: from Central Station take a train to Sondrio/Tirano direction and stop in Varenna (about one hour trip).
By car: from Milano take the road toward Lecco (SS36); when you get in Lecco pass through a long tunnel under the city. At the end of the tunnel you can:
1) exit at Abbadia Lariana/Mandello/Varenna and follow the road along the lake (S. Prov. 72). This is a panoramic road (about 1 hour to Varenna) or

Villa Monastero is placed in Varenna close to the main square and the church
Program:
An official program will be posted here closer to the time of the workshop
The forth international workshop and meeting on LII will combine technical presentations and discussions related to the scientific development of the laser-induced incandescence technique.
Arrival, Check-in / Registration, and Welcome:
Delegates are expected to arrive on Sunday, 18 April. Check-in for pre-registered delegates or registration will be possible in Villa Monastero during Sunday afternoon. Registration will also be possible on Monday 19 April, morning. A welcome get-together on Sunday evening is also planned. Further details will be made available closer to the time of the workshop.
Technical Presentations (Monday, April 19 - Tuesday, April 20):
Four technical sessions are planned during the workshop with the following main topics:
-
Session A - Soot properties and LII signal in standard flames
- Optical properties; aggregation; coated particles; adsorbed PAH; property variations in flames and how they effect signals
-
Session B - LII models and validation
- Basic understanding and mechanisms; models comparison; models validation
-
Session C - Extending LII
- Combining LII with other techniques; comparing LII to other techniques such as SMPS, PIMS, fluorescence; NOC; nascent soot particles; non-soot particles
-
Session D - LII under various conditions
- High/low pressure conditions; turbulent and technical flames; engines; environmental applications
Lake tour /Banquet dinner:
A short excursion and a social dinner are planned for Monday late afternoon and evening.
Lodging:
